The design is a series of interlinked sustainable systems that produce energy and heat, collect rainwater, process compost and sort waste with an off-grid infrastructure. A mobile greenhouse roof covers 1600 square feet of ground in the winter and slides back in warm months. A Kitchen Classroom, for 30 students allows education to happen while food is processed and consumed.
The curriculum is taught through urban agriculture, wildlife and habitat with on-grounds farm and outdoor “laboratory”. Agriculture becomes more than simply a component within a ciriculum but the basis through which many subjects are taught and the school functions. The campus garden and greenhouse allows for production while a kitchen and laboratory area create opportunities for the entire food cycle to be used in a didactic way.
