Evergreen Brick Works

Evergreen Brick Works is a community environmental center for cutting-edge ideas, technologies, and solutions for urban sustainability. In the center of the coplex, many activities related to education, production, and distribution of local food occur daily. Additionally, the community works on innovative technologies to create replicable models of food programs to be implemented around the world. A national digital database of native plants and a food region map is available on their website.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The project was challenged with remediating pollution in the soil and groundwater and so demonstrates how brownfield remediation can be considered in urban agriculture. Also, this project was supported by Evergreen, a national charity that makes cities more livable.
