Hydrogenerator

The HydroGENERATOR transforms an abandoned rail line in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Chicago into a 3 mile long greenhouse and hydrogen generator that provides 10 acres of farm land year round and powers city schools. It responds to the belief that the city’s needs go beyond recreation space and energy, food and leisure can be combined.

The HydroGENERATOR uniquely imagines agriculture as part of an energy creation system while integrating it into derelict urban infrastructure. The concept is a large leap in technology and innovation yet it has precedence in the success of other re-purposed old, transportation infrastructure such as the Highline. Its linear nature acts as its own transport line (meant for energy distribution but also for food).
