FoodTubes

The Urban Food Tubes delivery system is a project imagined by a collaboration of engineers and academics called FoodTubes. This design repurposes the tube infrastructure in the UK, by supplying the contents of the tube for transporting groceries. The function of the tubes  will allow a decrease in CO2 emission. The tubes will be located in schools, supermarkets, and anywhere within urban/rural context.  The two square meters capsules will be launched through the dedicated pipelines propelled by linear-induction and air pressure and vacuum, using electricity when necessary.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Tubes (a la the bank tubes in the past) will deliver food, reducing truck and car traffic for food transport) – this doesn’t solve a bio-regional food issue if the transportation is simply being replaced.  The ‘foodshed’ remains large.
